If you have been considering or looking at waterfront homes for sale on Bush Lake in Holly or any other lake the subject of private lake versus public lake may have come up. What is better a private lake or a public lake? A private lake no doubt has less traffic than a public lake that has a DNR lauch site on it. Where it gets a little confusing is when a private lake has a marina on it or has some subdivisions out lots that have docking priveledges on the lake. Those extra boat docks may be more than if a lake was public. You as a buyer may want to know if there is a marina that rents spots on the lake, or how many subdivisions have boat docking facilities on the lake.
We believe that the extra boat traffic isn't horrible. I live on White Lake. We do get people from fishing tournaments on the lake and other boaters. On the other side of the coin a private lake is going to be more restrictive. You may not be able to put a friends boat on the lake for "the fire works show" or have them bring over a jet ski to go with you on the lake. There are rules you can't get around on some private lakes. So know the rules before you buy. We don't believe any of them are show stoppers, but they may be for you. We also don't believe that off lake people cause any more problems, or litter more. A litter bug is a litter bug. They will be tossing stuff off the boat whether they live on the lake or not. We have buyers that are adamant about buying only on a private lake.
