Long Lake Stringy Lakes Oxford MI 

Long Lake is part of the Stringy chain of lakes in Oxford Township.  Stringy Lakes Chain is a chain of interconnected lakes located one mile west of the Village of Oxford in northeast Oakland County, Michigan.  It connects to Squaw Lake, Tan Lake, Cedar Lake, Clear Lake, Sring Lake, and Michelson Lake.  None of the lakes are huge.  I would say the lakes are good for the occassion tuber or skier, but they are not big enough for anybody looking to do a lot of water sports. All of the lakes are long and skinny in size. 

There is a low bridge that connects some of the lakes but you cannot get a big boat through the bridge.  You can get a jet ski through but it is shallow and if you run the jet ski through you are going to suck up all sorts of pebbles.   Because of the bridge, the public is currently only able to access Squaw and Clear lakes.  Row boats, canoes, paddle boards, and kayaks can get thru under the bridge but nothing really bigger than that.  The public DNR launch site is on Squaw Lake and has 55 parking spots.

Sometimes you cannot tell where one lake begins and the other ends.  Even some of the lake home owners cannot tell you the different lakes and where they lie. Davis Lake is another nearby lake.

On the waters of Stringy lakes, Oxford township, Oakland county, it is unlawful at any time to operate a vessel in excess of 40 miles per hour (64 kilometers per hour).  According to one website anglers can expect to catch a variety of fish including Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass and Yellow Perch.  There are three deep holes on Long Lake.  They are 51 feet deep, 42 feet deep, and 30 feet deep.

There are about 25 homes on Long Lake in Oakland County.  We would say that the lake is what we call a subdivision lake.  Most of the homes look similar.....more brick homes.  Though there are some homes that are the older lake cottages. Here are the features of the waterfront homes on the lake.

Even though the Stringy Lakes are not big they are good for a leisurely cruise around the lakes.  If they decided to raise the bridge back up higher so pontoons can get under it.....it will be nice for lake residents to see more of the lakes.  

You can probably count on two hands the number of Southeastern Michigan lakes that have a bar or restaurant on the lake.  Union Lake has the Matter of Taste restaurant on it.  Walled Lake has Bayside Restaurant on it.  White Lake has the White Lake Inn on it.  These are just some of the lakes that have a bar and restaurant on it.  There are not many lakes that do.  Years ago there used to be more, but many have burnt down or closed.  They tore them down to make way for homes.

Do you want the convenience of having a place to eat on the lake?  If you are wondering how does a bar or restaurant affect the price of a lake home let me explain.  Again there is no specific dollar amount that you can add on for the restaurant on the lake feature.  It is a bonus to have a bar or restaurant on the lake.  But to say it adds dollars to your home, it really does not.  I just makes the lake a little more desirable and fun.  It is nice to go for a boat ride and be able to stop for quick meal if you do not feel like cooking.  Or if you want a cocktail it is always nice to stop and visit with people from the lake.
