There are many different styles of lakefront homes on the lake.  We still have quite a few of the smaller cottages left on the lake.  When we say smaller we mean under 1000 square foot cottages that usually have 2 bedrooms and a bath.  Many times these little cottages are on a small lot where there is no room to build a garage.

We also have many large expensive homes on the lake. We can count over 10 homes that are in the million plus range.

Private Lakes in White Lake MI

As you are reading you see me say "we".  We say we because I live on the lake about 12 houses down on Jackson Blvd.  We love the lake and all it has to offer.  Like so many lake home owners we think my lake is the best and we wouldn't want to live any where else.  We recommend living on White Lake.

The lake is 570 acres in size according to the last lake survey done by the government.  Many people do not even know that they have determined the lake to be bigger than the 540 acres it was years ago.  For you water skiers and wake boarders there is plenty of room to enjoy the lake.  Though on the weekends like so many other local lakes it does get crowded.  Holidays are the same way. 

Here is a picture of Russ moving a hoist across the lake when we bought a different house on the lake.  We just towed the hoists and dock across the lake.  Winter on the lake is a lot of fun.  You will see snowmobiles, four wheelers, and side by sides out on the ice in the winter when it is safe.  It is very, very rare to see anybody go through the ice.  Nobody has drown that way.  Most people err on the side of caution when going out on the ice with a vehicle.  At least on White Lake they are more cautious.  We have not had any serious situation where a person has drown(Thank Goodness). There are fun things to do on the lake in all four of the seasons.

There are many spots on the lake where boats and residents just pull up to jump in or to hang out at.  The deepest spot on the lake is a 38 foot deep hole.  Over all we would say the average depth of the lake is about 12 foot.  There are many different spots that are 20 feet deep.  In the main part of the lake there are 3 sunken islands that are as shallow as 1 foot deep.  Some people like to anchor there and wade in the shallow water.

There also are 3 islands on White Lake.  One of the islands has a big home on it that was built a few years ago. Two of the islands are side by side on the northeast side of the lake and then the last island is on the south side of the lake.  People pull up their boats in the shallow areas on the east side of the islands.  Sometimes you will see anywhere from 10 to 30 boats beached in the shallow water.  People will be having fun with their kids and hanging out talking with other lake residents.  It's a fun way to spend the afternoon. 

There is a full time ski course on the lake that is used quite often by slalom skiers.  One of the biggest activities on the lake in the last few years is surfing behind the boat.  There is one section of the lake that many people do their surfing behind the boat. 

On the east side of the lake along Ridge and Duffield roads the homes sit up on the hillside above the lake.  Great views from most of the homes, but remember you will have steps down to the lake.  But with many of the lakes in Oakland County there are all sorts of elevations on the lake.  There are many homes on White Lake in White Lake Township that are pretty level with the lake.  No stairs!  So it just depends on where the house sits on the lake.  

Here is another drone view of the lake.  What is nice about the lake is that it is not just a big round lake.  It has lots of canals and bays to cruise around.  There is no one point on the lake that you can see the whole lake.  No matter how many times we have been around the lake there is always something new around the bend that we didn't notice before.

There are so many things to do on the lake in the Winter.  The White Lake Citizens league puts on a Winter Carnival.  You will see lots of ice rinks, ice fisherman, and you will even a couple of motorcycle race tracks.  On a beautiful sunny winter weekend there are days that we think the lake is just as active as the summer.

You don't have to own a house on the east side of the lake to see great sunsets.  All you have to do is get on your boat and find your favorite spot to watch the sun go down.

On the Sunday during Labor Day weekend they have an event called Mardi Gras between the two islands. There a lots of boats that tie up with friends and family.  They usually have a band out there too.  There is increased police prescence on the lake that day.  Some people call Mardi Gras....adult spring break.

This is another beautiful home on the lake.  They usually have a house tour on the lake.  It raises money for the fireworks and gives you a chance to get a glimpse of 5 homes on the lake.

Let's talk about the lake properties.  #1 there are only a couple of vacant properties on the lake, but they are not for sale.  #2 Many lake home owners choose to remodel over tearing down.  You will notice constuction going on the lake at almost anytime.  The little lake homes and older lake homes are continually being remodeled and redone.  Though we have seen a 1.8 Million dollar house torn down and rebuilt.  So it is not unusual for a nice lake home to be torn down to make way for the new owner to rebuild a house that they want.  

Nothing like looking out your window in the middle of night and seeing this.  Seeing Mother Nature at her finest.  Seeing the sun sparkling off the lake gives so many people that peaceful, relaxing feeling.  It's like being on vacation all year round when you own a house on a lake.  

Here you see the northern two islands.  On the left island there is now a beautiful colonial home.  Between the two islands is where Mardi Gras happens on Labor Day weekend. 

Just a couple more stlyes of lake houses.  The one on the right is a older cottage that has been updated.  So many home styles to chose from on the lake.  It's hard to find a lake house under a 1/4 million dollars.  There are starting to be more homes priced over $800,000.

Sunsets are just one of many beautiful things on the lake.  People love the bird watching too.  Nothing like seeing all the baby geese and ducks lined up behind their mother in the spring.  You'll see the swans and sand hill cranes too.  We have even had deer swim across the lake.

Do you like sailing?  White Lake Citizens League puts on a sailboat race every Tuesday or Wednesday during the summer months.

Whether you want to pontoon, paddle board, or kayak there is plenty of room on White Lake for you and your family.

The White Lake Citizens League pays for the sheriff to be on the lake.  It helps keep the jet skiers from going crazy.  The sheriff does lots of boat checks for safety.  They seldom give out a ticket unless it is a flagrant violation and you are rude and want to argue with the sheriff.
