Duck Lake was presumably named for an abundance of waterfowl. Note that the United States Geological Survey officially recognizes 161 different lakes with this name in the United States, including thirty in Michigan alone. There is even another "Duck Lake" in Oakland County, in Oxford Township.
At one time they tried to drain Duck Lake to reclaim additional farmland. Wouldn't that have been a shame!

Duck Lake is located in Highland Twp in the western part of Oakland County Michigan. It is South of White Lake Rd, West of Duck Lake Rd, North of E. Wardlow Rd, and East of Wardlow Rd.

There are very few of the older cottages for the 1930's to the 1950's left. Most of the homes have been torn down and re-built. If you are looking for a lake that you won't be living next to a shack then you might want to view some of the houses on Duck Lake.
South Bayshores subdivision is on the south east side of the lake and there are some big, newer built brick colonials with walkout basements that have lake frontage
Duck Lake front homes are still close together, but there are some lake front homes that have large yards with plenty of room to entertain and park. What I like about Duck Lake is that some of the homes have mature trees. There are some canals off the lake that you can have full lake access without all the noise and commotion.
Children who live on the lake attend Huron Valley Schools.

Duck Lake General Information
I have boated on Duck Lake before and I like it because it has multiple large areas to go around in. You can't see the whole lake from any one point. There are some canals and bays to cruise through. The kids that live on the lake will go to Huron Valley School system.
In 2011 there have been fewer and fewer lake front foreclosures. Many times when they hit the market they have multiple offers and sometimes they go far above list price. So if you see a Duck Lake foreclosure and you want the house. Bid to get it because there will be other people wanting the house.
