Oakland County has over 320 lakes to chose from if you want to live on a lake.  Oakland County Lakes range in size from small ponds where only rowboats and paddle boats are allowed, up to 1232 acre all sports lake Cass Lake.

Some are private lakes where nobody but the residents and invited guests can use and other are open to the public through a state owned public access site.

Oakland County Lakefront  homes

Oakland County lake homes are mixed and every lake is different.  Originally most lakes were summer getaways for Detroit residents as early as the 1890's.  But they really started building the cottages in the 1920's.  There are not many lake cottages left standing pre-1900.  They continued to build homes through out the years.  When they ran out of Oakland County Lake lots and waterfront property they started tearing down the old homes and built bigger homes.  The last time I looked in April of 2009 there were 122 Oakland County lakefront luxury homes for sale over a million dollars.

The square footage of the homes range from a 600 square foot ranch to a 12,000 square foot colonial.  Whether you are looking for just a simple lake front home or a year round luxury home Oakland County lakes have a home for you.
