In 1980, Clarkston was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a Historic District on based on its architectural and historical significance. Clarkston has a small downtown area, not as large as Rochester, Milford, Royal Oak, or Birmingham...But is filled with plenty of lakes to choose from. The city and downtown area has many important examples of Queen Anne style homes. Residents in 1980 came together and submitted the appropriate paperwork to the National Park Service to list Clarkston as a historic district primarily to prevent Main Street from widening and wiping out character-defining buildings as well as Clarkston's history. Deer Lake: Deer Lakefront homes for sale. Most high end lake houses are taking much longer to sell in 2010 and 2011. It's the lower priced lake homes that have been selling. This is an nice all sports lake that has many varieties of water front properties.There are 1000-7000 square foot lake homes around the lake. There are very few of the 1920's 1000 square foot ranches that you see on many Oakland County lakes. Middle Lake: Middle Lake properties are not going to be large acreage properties. They range from about 60' to over 180' lake frontage. Most of Middle Lake front homes are older. There are no luxury estate style homes like there are on Deer Lake right down the street. The homes that have been on the MLS the last few years range from the 1920's -1960's. There are approximately 20 homes on the lake. Middle Lake homes are what I would call more of older home lake. The lake homes range from about 1500 -2500 square feet. Greens Lake: Greens Lake does have canal front homes. There is no public lake access ramp. Some areas of the lake are natural. A city or township park is also located on the lake. About 1/2 of the lake is natural and undeveloped. There is about 40 -50 homes at the most on the lake, (again just an estimate). The children that live on the lake go to Clarkston Schools.There is a big community park on the south side of the lake called Bay Court Park. The park has a few gazebos, a disc golf course, a pavillion, a beach, rest rooms, and plenty of parking.
