The lake level is maintained by a dam. Susin Lake was created by Cora Susin in 1945. It was originally 3 ponds and a creek that she damned up. The lake is spring fed. The outflow from Susin Lake becomes the headwaters of the Clinton River. The lake does have one island in it. The children on the lake go to Clarkston schools.
The lakefront real estate varies from one side of the lake to the other. On one side of the lake is Harbortowne subdivision that is lake homes that range from 2000 to 3000 square foot homes with 75' lots that were built during the late 1970's. The other side of the lake is a little more mixed type of homes with some of them being the small lake cottages from the 1950's and 1960's to a bigger 5800 square foot home on a 2 acre parcel. Most of the lake homes have lake frontage ranging from 50' to 100'.
