These are our local Oakland County Lakes that have DNR access ramps or public access points. We call these public lakes because the public can get on the lake. Some lake home buyers do not like public lakes simply because there are more boats on the lake. That is very true. A private lake does not allow any "Joe" public person to put a boat on the lake. So there are only going to be the property owners boats on private lakes.
However, the assumption that public lakes have huge numbers of boats on the lake is false. At all Michigan DNR access points there is a limited number of trailer parking spots. So once the lot fills up the Michigan DNR employee will not let anymore boats launched onto the lake until a parking spot and the boat comes off the lake. That is how they control how many "public" boats can be on the lake.
Oakland County boasts of having more lakes than any other county in Michigan with more than 1,400 lakes and numerous streams stemming from its six major watersheds. One of the best ways to experience the county’s rich water resources is by fishing. Relax, wait to see what is living underneath the surface. There are many diverse places for anglers to toss a line into the water and try their luck.
Seventy-four public access points are listed on this page. The benefits of fishing are many including time near the water, seeing wildlife, experiencing the outdoors, and learning to appreciate Oakland County’s rich natural heritage – better yet – you might catch a meal.
This list below shows public access points in Oakland County. These are spots you can access the lakes. Not all of these public access point have a DNR Launch. I have starred the ones that I know have a DNR Launch on.
