Fox Lake Commerce Michigan
We have great lake areas around metro Detroit that most people do not even realize that are there. I have gathered information about lakefront homes on Fox Lake in Commerce Michigan. If you have questions about any lake or about seeing lake homes give me a call on my cell at (248) 310-6239.
What is great about Fox Lake in Commerce Township Michigan is that is not only a low traffic all sports lake but it gives lake residents access to the Huron River and Brendel Lake via a small boat. What I mean is that is is a neat lake for canoers, and kayakers. The Huron River flows through the lake. So the water is constantly changing and you have the ability to go up the Huron River or down it from the lake.
There are culverts under the roads between Fox Lake and Brendel Lake. Some of them are very low. So a speed boat or a pontoon are not going through them. But a small rowboat, canoe, or kayak can make it. It is a beautiful kayak ride up the river. I have been told it takes between 2 and 3 hours depending on how fast you paddle. You will sometimes see deer and other wildlife along the river because it is rarely traveled. There are not houses right on top of the river so you can enjoy the natural surroundings and the quiet. The Huron River is a bonus for all Fox Lake residents. You can also get over to Cedar Island Lake if you portage your kayak across the road.
It's not a huge lake but it still is an all sport lake. There are a few homes that are on the inlet to the lake that they call lakefront. In my opinion they should call those homes canal front but they don't. Unfortunately you won't know that unless you map the property or go out and see it.
The children that live on the lake go to Walled Lake Schools.

Living on a lake is a whole different life style. Over all the lake life style is a little different than subdivision. Most lake home owners know their neighbors or other people on the lake from seeing them out on the lake. I would say the lake life style is more social. Though there are many lake home owners that keep to themselves. So Lake Home owners may not even own a boat. To me that is foreign....live on a lake and not own a boat????
There are always people like that on a lake. Some have gotten older and no longer want to maintain a boat, some are just happy looking at the lake and the birds, ducks, swans on the lake. I have had many clients that do not have boats and are so happy on the lake. They are just more relaxed because of the lake.
Many lakes in Southeastern Michigan will have a gathering spot. What I mean by that is a place where boats and people tend to hang out together. They may not know each other too well, but they may talk a little when anchored close by. If it is a mucky lake they may anchor in a deep spot to swim. If there are islands on the lake they may park on the shallow end of the island. Some lakes has shallow areas or sunken islands that lake home owners anchor at. Some stay to themselves with their family and kids. Other lake home owners mingle and chat with the other people on the boats.
Fox Lake properties and real estate
Many of Fox Lake homes on the north and east side of the lake were built between the 1950's to the late 1970's. Most of these lakefront homes were brick homes that ranged in size from 1000 square feet to about 1800 square feet. Most of them had basements.
On the Southwest corner of the lake is Cross Creek subdivision. There are not a lot of homes that sit on the lake but they are newer being built in the 2000's. These lakefront homes have the latest ammenities. Many have open layouts, large entertainment style kitchens with granite and corian, walkout basements, master bedrooms with nice master bathrooms and walk-in closets. So there is a availabilty of living a quiet all sport lake and yet be able to live in a newer style of home.

Of course like all Oakland County lakes there are homes built in the 1940's, 1980's, 1990's, and 2000's. The biggest house on the lake that I have seen on the MLS is about 4100 square feet.
Fox Lake properties in Oakland County range from 45' to 150' of lake frontage. Though most of them are under 80' of lake frontage. You get that nice clean feeling when you drive through the streets that line Fox Lake. It's not like a few of the lakes where there are old cottages.

Here is what a previous client had to say about me!
"I first started looking at real estate listings online nearly a year ago, but at first I thought I´d never really buy one. I hadn´t been paying attention and thought I still couldn´t afford to buy a place. I also had no experience in buying a home and I wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing before I bought. For most questions I would search online, the topic had been discussed on Russ´ blog. Not only that, he was local. Over the summer, I finally decided to start physically looking at houses and Russ was the only choice.
My preferred method of contact was email and he always responded in a timely fashion. He was patient with this first-time home buyer, and worked with me through my initial bid process. I was surprised when they accepted the bid! The transaction went smoothly, with Russ patiently answering any questions and concerns I had. From the first time we looked at houses to the closing was exactly one month. I´ve been here five months now and people still marvel at what I got for the price I paid. When I requested a plumber, he was able to provide one was lived close by and was economical."
Thanks for everything, Russ.
