Squaw Lake is part of the Stringy chain of lakes...It connects directly to Clear Lake. There are several other lakes in the chain.....Tan Lake, Spring Lake, Long Lake, Cedar Lake, and some consider Michelson part of the chain. The Stringy Chain of lakes adds up to 164 acres of lake in total. None of the lakes in the chain are very big. You can waterski, tube, wake board, and jet ski but many water sports enthusiasts will say the lakes are too small for them. For the occasional tuber or waterskier the lakes would be fine.
There is a big DNR public launch on Squaw Lake. Compared to many other DNR Launches for the size of the lakes the Squaw Lake DNR Launch has 50 parking spots which is over sized compared to their ratio that they normally use. The residents of Stringy Lake are not happy with the size of the launch. There is a low culvert that limits or stops pontoons and speed boats from accessing all the lakes. Kayaks, canoes, row boats can get thru but not bigger boats. jet skis can get through however it is so shallow that you may ruin your jet ski because there are lots of pebbles and rocks that your jet ski will pick up and ruin the engine.
The homes on Squaw Lake sit up on a gentle hillside. The lake is like a small bowl. There are some homes that are flat with the lake. There is a mix of small & big homes. There are no old cottages on the lake. Here are some the basic characteristics of the lake homes.
I would call the homes....normal homes that you would find in any city or subdivision.
The lake is located south of Seymour Lake Road and west of M-24. The lake is about a mile from downtown Oxford and not to far north of Lake Orion.
