Tommys Lakefront homes. There are 4-5 newer big brick colonial homes on the east side of the lake on the Boy Scout side of the lake.  These bigger homes that were built a few years back get as big as 4400 square feet.  They are typical of the big colonials that were built in any sub.  They have first floor laundries, large walk-in closets, grand foyers, great rooms, and kitchens with plenty of cabinets.  

These homes are right before the main boy scout camp starts.

On the west side of the lake there are older 800 square foot homes up to some newer 3000+ square foot homes.  Tommy's Lake homes are similar to many of Oakland County's lakes.  There are old cottages from 700 square feet built in the 1920's to bigger newer colonials built in the 2000's.  Old cottages are right next to contemporary homes built in the 1980's.

So there is quite a variety of lake homes on the west and south side of the lake.  There are bungalows, ranchs, colonials, split levels, and contemporary homes.

Back in the 1920's a 50' lot on the lake was plenty big enough for a 700 to 1000 square foot ranch home.  So there are quite a few of those size lots on the lake. The average size Tommy's lake front property ranges from 50' to 100' though there are some up to 170' lake frontage.

There is a Boy Scout camp on the east side of the lake. The roads around the lake are gravel.  The children that live on the lake go to Lake Orion Schools.

Every weekend Detroiter pack up the car each to drive three, four, five hours to get to their lake.  They may be driving to Houghton Lake, Higgins Lake, Opal Lake, or Torch Lake to name a few of the many beautiful lakes up north.  They head up on Friday fighting the traffic on I-75 or 23 or 27.  To skip fighting the traffic they will either take off another day early or come back on Tuesday.

So why do all of that.  We have so many beautiful lakes within an hour of metro Detroit.  My own cottage is only 15 minutes away.  What you say 15 minutes?  Whether it is 15 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour, or 4 hours away it is all the same.  Your lake cottage is your get away from the real world.  It is your escape place.  Your place to go to unwind.  A place to recharge.  To have fun and make memories with the family.

I myself do not want to be worn out and tired when I get to my lake home.  You should not be frustrated from fighting the traffic.  You should not have to leave early to beat the traffic.  You do not need to cut a beautiful Sunday afternoon short because you want to beat the traffic jam and the snarl of traffic.
