Upper Pettibone Lake Highland MichiganUpper Pettibone Lake was originally called Highland Lake until at least 1908.   The lake was formerly the site of large commercial ice cutting operations.  Each winter large blocks of ice would be sawn from the frozen lake and stored in a massive ice house for eventual shipment to Detroit by train.  A fire in May, 1929, destroyed both the ice house and workmen's dormitory.  It takes its name from the creek into which it flows, which was itself named for Levi Pettibone, who settled in what would later become the Village of Milford in 1827.

Upper Pettibone Lake is comparable to some Oakland County MI Lakes in that there are smaller 50' lots mixed in with larger lots.. Many of the lakefront homes are not what you would call private.  You can see your neighbors and sometimes they are close to you.    If you are looking for more space you might want to look at Long Lake in Hartland.

Upper Pettibone Lake does have lake access homes nearby.  Below is a picture of the association park on the lake.

To Search any Milford area Lake for lake homes for sale go to the atlas search and search by area. I hope this helped you if you have a Michigan relocation in your future.Custom image 1All dreams are possible.  How bad do you really want the dream?  If you have the dream of living on the lake one of the first things I would suggest to you is to figure out what type of lake you want.  How you do that is to answer some of these questions.

1.)  Are you active?  Do you want to water ski, wakeboard, or tube?  If so then you need a powerboat lake, an all sports lake

2.) Are you looking for a fishing lake?  Sometimes a private lake with little boating pressure has better fishing.

3.) Are you a kayaker or a sailor?  A person that wants to sail will need a bigger wider lake.  A kayaker may want a lake that is not so busy.

4.) Do you want peace and quiet noise?  Then you may want an electric motor lake. Or maybe a lake that you cannot have jet skis on.  Or maybe you would be happy with some peace and quiet before 10 or after 6.  Some lakes have lake rules and hours when boats can make a wake

These are just some of the questions you need to be asking yourself when buying a lake home.  Knowing whether you want an all sports lake, a fishing lake, a non motorized lake, a big lake or a small lake will help you narrow your search and save you time when looking for lake homes

Here is what a previous client had to say about me!

"Hi Russ,

I wanted to thank for helping me get my Milford condo.  I know I limited my chances of finding the "perfect condo" by wanting a certain small area.  But you came out here whenever we found one.  It took me a year of looking but finally we found one that was the "one".  It was a short sale which I knew nothing about.  You told me about all the problems that might happen with a "short sale" and some of them did.  You were good about re-assuring me about the length of time short sales take.  But we finally got the condo!   Thank you from Courtney and I."
