I am going to give you a quick look at Whipple Lake in Oakland County. It is not a huge lake by any means. It is a private lake with no public access. It is lake big enough to tube and waterski on occassionally, but for a person that wants to do it everyday or a lot I would say that the lake would not be for you. It is a quieter lake good for swimming, fishing, short boat rides, kayaking, and paddle boarding.
What is nice about the lake is that it is only a couple of miles from an I-75 entrance ramp. You can jump on I-75 and be downtown. Or you may work in Auburn Hills, Troy, or Rochester. It is a easy drive to any of those cities. You will be close to skiing and concerts at Pine Knob/DTE. There is lots of shopping at Great Lakes Crossing and of course there are many great restaurants in downtown Clarkston which is less than 10 minutes away.
Here is a quick synopsis of homes on Whipple lake. This information has been gathered from 15 years of information from homes that sold on the mls. I did some research and put this together for you. There are a few older small cottages on the lake, but many of the lake homes were built after the 1950's. So you are going to find most of the homes on the lake that are going to be similar to ones that you find in any subdivision around metro Detroit. You are not going to find mega mansions on the lake. The biggest home on the lake is less than 4000 square foot. There are not big luxury lake estate homes that are over 7000 square foot in size. It just is not that type of lake.
There are about 75 homes on the lake. Here are the general characteristics of the homes on the lake.
The lake lies entirely within Independence Township in Oakland County, Michigan. Sashabaw Road runs along the west side of the lake. Whipple Lake is located east of Independence Oaks County Park, west of Pine Knob Road, north of Stickney Road, and south of Oak Hill Road. Whipple Lake connects downstream to 2 lakes in Independence Oaks County Park.......30-acre Crooked Lake and to Upper Bushman Lake to the northeast.
Two nearby lakes are Seymour Lake in Brandon and Big Walters Lake in Independence Township. If you are looking for a lake with luxury estate homes your may want to check out Private non all sports Heather Lake in Orion Township.
As you can see from the picture above Whipple Lake is more of a longer narrow lake. It does have two canals that open up to little bays. I call these type of bays with canals.....lollipop bays.
If you are looking to be close to I-75 or near Clarkston then Whipple Lake may be for you. Most lake home buyers look for homes on a lake because they are drawn to water. Whether they like boating or just like the feeling water gives them they usually thought of buying a home on a lake for years. Sometimes it is past memories of being on a lake with grand parents or parents that drive them to find a lake home of their own.
The video below is not the best because the wind was so strong that day it drowned out my voice. But it does give a view of the lake.
Whatever you are looking for in waterfront home I can help point out the right lakes that fit your needs and wants. Lake home buying can be tough sometimes because there are many more factors to consider when buying a lake home. It is all about compromising a little when buying a home on a lake in Oakland County or anywhere in south east Michigan.
