Schoolhouse Lake is what we would call a subdivision lake. It is like Tull Lake or Lake Sherwood. Paved streets and a well laid out subdivision. It isn't like some Oakland County lakes where the home styles vary greatly and the home are both really old (1920's) to newer. There isn't a 1920's home on Schoolhouse lake that I know of.

These lakes have homes that were built in the late 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's. The main home style on the lake is ranches with walkout basements. They are primarily brick homes with some, colonials, and split levels along with the ranches. Like Tull Lake and Lake Sherwood they do have some homes that were built between the 1970's and 2000.
Many of School House lake homes are under 2000 square feet. Of course if you count finished walkouts they get up to 3800 square feet in size.
Schoolhouse Lake properties range from 70 to about 135' of lake frontage. That is a good sized lot compared to some Oakland County lakes were they might be 40' or 50'!

Schoolhouse Lake is fed by the Clinton River. If you have a small boat you can go under Walton Rd to Wormer Lake or to Loon Lake to the west.
I have been told you have access to 7 lakes. We know six of them. They are Woodhull, Wormer, Mohawk, Loon, and Lake Oakland.
The kids on Schoolhouse Lake Waterford go to Waterford School system. The lake is not man made. There is about 1.1 miles of shoreline.

The cons of lake living is that most likely you are going to have less house for the money than you would if you bought in a community subdivision atmosphere. The cons of lake living is that lake homes are closer together unless you pay bigger bucks for a large lake lot. Most Southeastern Michigan lakes homes are closer together. More like old Detroit homes. But you have the choice whether you want to mix with your neighbors or not.
The pluses of lake living is the lake life style. We call it living the dream. We feel that living on a lake makes you feel more relaxed. There is something about the water. When you search lake homes don't search by name or ask a realtor to search by the name of the lake. Search by area. Why you ask, because some agents do not put the name of the lake on the listing. So you could miss out on find a home on a lake you want.

Information about the lake from a neighbor that wrote me
1st, Loon Lake which is connected to Schoolhouse, connects to Silver Lake. This is only manageable by small vessels. Also, in a small vessel, from Loon lake you can go under Dixie highway toward the Waterford Historical Log cabin park and to the fish hatchery.
2nd. There is a house on Schoolhouse Lake that was built in the 20's, mine. 2975 West Walton was built by my Great grandfather in 1929. 3001West Walton was built by him in 1926. It was the first home on the lake. We have over 350ft of lake frontage.
