Have you been dreaming of a cottage on a lake in Commerce Township. Commerce has many different lakes and the lakes are relatively close to the M-5 making your highway commute to work easier.
Commerce Township has many beautiful lakes from Lake Sherwood to the smaller Clark Lake. There are even a few lakefront homes on Union Lake in Commerce though most of Union Lake lies in West Bloomfield. Some of the lakes are part of the Huron River chain as it passes through the community. Quiet little lakes that have beautiful lake homes that you can kayak from or spend the day fishing on. Or there are bigger lakes in the township that are great for water sports or jet skiing on. So many choices and yet just a short ride to the expressways.
Of course Commerce waterfront homes are like most Oakland County lakes in that most have a wide variety of home ages, styles, sizes, and exteriors. I call them a mixed bag of homes because you can have a 2700 square foot brick colonial home with a 3 car garage next to a 1930's built 1000 square foot wood sided ranch home with no garage. The type of house changes as you go down the street. It is rare that any two lake homes are alike next to each other on some Commerce Lakes. The one lake in Commerce that has similar style and age of waterfront homes is Lake Sherwood as it was a planned community. The lake home in Commerce will vary from ranches, to colonials, to bungalows, to contemporary homes, to split level homes. They will be built in different decades, have different exteriors, and be different sizes. That is why I call them a mixed bag of homes.

However Commerce lakefront homes are similar on some of the local lakes. For example Clark Lake and Lake Sherwood will have more uniform homes. Fox Lake has lake homes on one side that are new brick colonial homes. Lake Sherwood is full of waterfrpmt homes that are different in size and style but over all the lake homes are similar. There are no old 1920's or 1930's cottages. The homes were mainly built between the 1950 and 1980. The lake homes are brick exteriors and the home styles are mainly ranches, split level homes, and colonials. Many waterfront home buyers prefer what I call subdivision lake homes. They like the conformity of all brick homes that are some what similar. Even though there are still different styles, and elevations there are no run down old cottages or homes that look out of place.
Many times these "subdivision lakes" or "subdivision street" will have association rules preventing things that you see on other non association lakes. There usually is no storage of boats or trailers. The exterior of these homes will be less junked up. If you like this then a lake home on Lake Sherwood in Commerce may be for you. Some Oakland County lake homes appear cluttered or messy from the outside because of the lack of rules of what can be outside of the home. So if you are looking for a lakefront home for sale in Commerce you may have to give up your outside storage of a trailer if you want a subdivision home. If you chose the subdivision lake with an association then you will have to live by the rules of the association. Whatever preference you have in a lake home their is usually a variety of homes throughout the year. The best time to find waterfront homes for sale in Commerce MI is from March to September. - Carroll Lake Commerce MI
- Carroll Lake is located in Commerce Twp Mi, The kids on this lake attend walled lake schools. There are some canals on this lake and it is a private all sports lake. Carroll Lake is about 33 acres in size and about 38 feet deep (deepest spot). There is no public access on this lake. Connects to Clark Lake
- Clark Lake Commerce MI
- Clark Lake is a private all sports lake. Located in Commerce Twp Mi. the homes on this lake range from the 50's to the 70's and most of them are under 2000 sq ft. The lakefront homes here have usually 60-175 feet of lake frontage. a few homes have anywhere from 1.5-just over 3 acres of land. Connects to Carroll Lake
- Commerce Lake Commerce MI
- Commerce Lake is a great lake for you and your family. the kids all attend Walled lake Schools. and the homes run on well, and septic. This is an all sports lake and is about 236 acres large! there is no public access on this lake,it is private. there are some canals you and the kids can explore during the hot summer months. Commerce Lake is actually two lake that connect....North Commerce Lake and South Commerce Lake
- Fox Lake Commerce MI
- Fox lake is a smaller, private, all sports lake at about 62 acres. The depth is unknown, but there are other fun facts we can share. The lake has canals, there are condominiums on the lake as well as your standard single family homes, and much more. It is a lake that was formed by the Huron River.

- Long Lake Commerce MI
- Lower Straits Lake Commerce MI
- Lower Straits lake is located in Commerce MI off Union Lake Road, and in the Walled lake school district. it is a bigger lake at 236 acres and about 22 feet deep. It is an all sports lake, and it is private. Your kids will have a blast on the water in the summer months. You will find many bigger colonial and contemporary lake homes on Lower Straits Lake.

- Middle Straits Lake Commerce MI (mostly in West Bloomfield)
- Middle Straits lake is a private all sports lake at about 172 acres in size, the homes on the lake range in price from $275,000- $3 million. There is a home here for everyone.
- Mud Lake
- Reed Lake
- Reed Lake is not an all sports lake, and it is private. the lake is smaller at about 32 acres large, the depth is unknown. The fishing on this lake is typically blue gill, crappie, northern pike, and large mouth bass. This is a great lake for peaceful fishing and lounging in the sun.
- Twin Suns Lake
- Union Lake Commerce MI
- Union lake is located in Commerce and West Bloomfield, (mostly West Bloomfield) the kids attend Walled lake and Waterford schools. The homes run on Municipal and Well systems, along with sewer sanitary systems. There are no canals on this lake and none of the lots are at or over an acre. The waterfront homes on Union Lake are a little more exclusive and the price per square foot for homes is higher on this lake.
